Customer Rating: Summary: Don't think twice / just buy it Comment: Now that it's on Blu-Ray, we own this concert in all three formats (DVD, Hi-Def, & Blu Ray) It was a Christmas present from me to me. My daughters knew it was under the tree and unwrapped it for me. From the time the menu starts to the end credits, it's on. We watched it as if it were the first time we had seen it. The color, the images, the sound, all truly amazing. To see the two bands together as I said in an earlier review of this project is a music lesson no classroom could touch. I'm not sure it was the 7.1 surround system or my excitment to watch this, but I was hearing sounds that I had not noticed before. There are a lot more reviews to go, so I will simply end with, if you are looking for a Blu-Ray that will test your system and keep you moving all at the same time, this is the disc you want in your player. If you think you are a fan of either of these bands, then this disc will erase all doubts. Enjoy, stop reviewing and just buy it. You will not be disappointed. Bobby D Elkton MD
Customer Rating: Summary: The best of both worlds Comment: Chicago combined with Earth Wind, and Fire put on one of the best performances I have reviewed on Blue-ray disk. The high energy sound of EWF combined with the classic rock tunes of Chicago made a major impression on me. This is a must see disk and a great addition to your musical library.
Customer Rating: Summary: Great Show in glorious high definition Comment: This is a great show that will please established fans of one or both of these groups, as well as entertain newcomers to one or both as well. At nearly three hours in length, fans, both new and old, have the opportunity to meet and enjoy their favorite stars from these two power groups like never before, in glorious high definition. As an established fan of Chicago and a newcomer to Earth, Wind & Fire, I came away from the show extremely pleased with the experience from both an entertainment and critical perspective.never felt like I was actually at the Greek and mingling amongst the crowd. Instead, there is a sense of isolation and a lack of warmth in that regard. Fortunately, the music itself fares very well. Lyrics sometimes sound trumped by the instruments, but those instruments sure do pack a wonderful wallop. Every instrument is rendered remarkably well and comes through the sound system with crystal-clear clarity. The DTS track, especially, offers fantastic imaging. The sound travels all across the soundstage for an exciting, enveloping experience. Deeper bass doesn't become too pronounced or violent, but it blends perfectly into the soundtrack as a whole. As is the case with every concert I've reviewed to date, black levels are deep and true. Detail is solid if not a bit unremarkable. The various instruments and backgrounds on the stage are fairly bland and lifeless, notably during the Chicago segment. Earth, Wind & Fire bring some life and pizazz to the show not only through their energy and tempo, but in the vibrancy of their clothing and instruments as well. The colorful outfits and instruments not only look great on this disc, but also compliment the band's style very well.
Customer Rating: Summary: For oldies acts, these guys are still very vibrant! Comment: OK, first off, I would never have purchasd thid DVD were it not for my wife. She'd seen some of it on one of the cable channels and raved how good it was. I got it for her on a whim.
As it turns out, this two-CD concert is great! It opens with Chcago and Towner of Power, two horn-driven bands, playing several songs together. Then they toss a coin to see who goes first and Tower of Power gets the win. I've never been a big fan of theirs, but Mr. Bailey and Co. kept my attention.
The second CD opens with Chicago's performance, and closes with both groups jamming together for several tunes. With Pete Cetera long gone, I was prepared for a watered-down "oldies" band. The few young guys add some energy, but, surprisingly, the original members of the band are in fine shape and kicked butt. Fortunately, much of the concert was geared toward Chicago's early hits. (I stopped following the band after Chicago VII, and I own every CD from Chicago Transit Authority through Chicago VII...nothing since has really caught my interest.) On the performances of the early tunes, the band was spot on. Considering these guys have been together now some 40 years, and the original members are in their sixties, they performed with a cohesive energy that took me back to my youth! They were solid!
The idea of having two artists join together, opening and closing the show in unison, was a good one. My wife watched DVD 1. I watch DVD 2. We're both more than happy with this DVD. We got our money's worth!
Customer Rating: Summary: Amazing group of musicians Comment: I was very impressed with the quality of the bands, as well as the overall quality of the Blu-ray disc.
