The ACME Thunderer is the highest grade metal whistle offered by ACME. It is a heavy nickel plated brass whistle with cork ball in the whistle chamber and has a lanyard ring already attached. The whistle is the standard size measuring in at a 1/2, 1-7/8". The whistle in known for its thundering super loud clear tone when blown. Acme also makes a more inexpensive plastic model #660. Black Acme Thunderer Whistle It is small, portable and easy to blow. It is tested and guaranteed to reliably produce a loud high pitch shrill. The internal ball is actually call a "pea". It is made from cork so that it is waterproof.
Acme also makes other larger lower pitch models.
Acme supplied the mates whistles in 1912 for the legendary ship Titanic used during its distress calls.

Since then, I bought four from another dealer several months ago and just bought an additional three from this seller (the first one no longer has them). While the price is slightly higher this time around - but still back to under $10 - the quality of this item is excellent and I received them so fast the regular "leave seller feedback" spot in my account won't even take feedback yet! MY EXPERIENCE WITH A PURCHASE OF 3 OF THIS PRODUCT IN JULY OF 2008 DESERVES A FIVE-STAR RATING!!! The whistles are of excellent quality and they got here amazingly fast for not being sold by Amazon. No, I don't run a soccer league; I am getting them for my daughter and her friends as they head off to college. Customer Rating: Summary: The best whistle Comment: I first came across the Acme Thunderer in England (I think they're based in Greenwich) a few years ago. It is the most powerful whistle available... something to do with the size of the pea and the size of the chamber. It's fun to know you can get the best of something for such a modest price.
