Helping men rediscover their masculine heart, this guide to understanding Christian manhood and Christian men offers a refreshing break from the chorus of voices urging men to be more responsible, reliable, dutiful… and dead. God designed men to be dangerous, says John Eldredge. Simply look at the dreams and desires written in the heart of every boy: To be a hero, to be a warrior, to live a life of adventure and risk. Sadly, most men abandon those dreams and desires-aided by a Christianity that feels like nothing more than pressure to be a "nice guy." It is no wonder that many men avoid church, and those who go are often passive and bored to death. In this provocative book, now available in trade paper, Eldredge gives women a look inside the true heart of a man and gives men permission to be what God designed them to be-dangerous, passionate, alive, and free.

Customer Rating: Summary: a wonderful, wonderful book Comment: this book was a pleasure to read, but also so much much more. it is very insightful, very wise, very real. i bought it as soon as i got married and it has been a great help to me in understanding my husband and myself in regard to him. i go back to it every now and then. a great blessing.
Customer Rating: Summary: wild at heart Comment: This is an excellent book. It is both helpful for a man to understand who and why God made him who he is, but also as a study of the Word. If you read this book and compare statements with the Bible it is an awesome thing.
This is my husband's 2nd time reading it. The first copy he read belonged to our church so he could not mark in it. The book I purchased from Amazon is now his and he is marking away!
Customer Rating: Summary: Excellent! Comment: Gave as a gift. He called two days later, said he couldn't put it down & had nearly read the whole book. He knew God was talking to him.
Customer Rating: Summary: Wild at Heart Comment: This is a great book, particularly for parents and/or grandparents raising up boys. I liked it so well I purchased copies for my 2 sons and my son-in-law who are raising sons. Wish I had read it before my sons were born!
Customer Rating: Summary: Was expecting something better after reading the reviews. Comment: If you are a well adjusted male with a decent relationship with your father then there is about 10% of this book that is of any use at all. The author must have had some troubles with his relationship with his father and found a few others who have as well and made this a basis for most of the book. What a bore that part was and he repeated it so many times in different ways.
There are some really good parts of the book about realizing your masculinity and not falling into the "nice guy" christian persona but to realize the natural masculine desires of your heart. The best quote was:
"Don't ask yourself what the world needs. Ask yourself what makes you come alive, and go do that, because that is what the world needs is people who have come alive."
I would have sold the book at HPB but fought through the "wounded male" part of the book thinking better stuff was coming. Not so much. The rest is more generic stuff about living a christian life. Not bad, just not new.
