Customer Rating: Summary: Pure Amy Sedaris Comment: I loved this book. If you're a fan of Amy Sedaris, it's absolutely perfect and her humor.
I found the 1 star reviews here pretty hilarious. If you read the reviews and descriptions, or even google Amy Sedaris you're going to know immediately the kind of humor in a book like this. Who buys a cookbook online for friends without at least looking into the style of cook the author is? I think Amy would have found the review with the woman who bought several copies hilarious, as I did. :-)
This book is very funny and I highly recommend it to anyone who is a fan of Amy or that style of humor. It's politically incorrect, occasionally offensive and nothing you want the kids to see. Perfect!
It is called Hospitality Under the Influence Folks. Pay Attention. :-)
Customer Rating: Summary: Quirky Comment: This may prove to be the most difficult book I've ever reviewed. It's a cookbook with recipes such as Split Pea Soup, Yogurt Spaghetti, Southern Fried Chicken, Yorkshire Pudding, cakes for special occasions, assorted drinks, as well as instructions on party planning, conversation starters for blind dates, how to give yourself a breast exam, the art of putting on panty hose, and gift ideas for the elderly. Also included are craft ideas such as how to make a needle wallet, a paper clip necklace, brick bookends, and several other useless items. Anecdotes are sprinkled throughout. This might make a unique idea for a quirky hostess gift. Note: contains profanity.
Customer Rating: Summary: Hilarious! Comment: This book is very funny! It not only gives actual recipes, but really explores the depths of parties and what could go wrong. There is some sarcasm in the book and it's def not the book you want to give to your grandmother. This isn't your classical cookbook, more of a humurous read that does have some recipes and party ideas mixed in. I am very pleased with my purchase and would def. recommend this book to any open minded gal who likes to entertain.
Customer Rating: Summary: Totally Hilarious! Comment: The recipes in this book are nothing compared to the rest of the content which is completely hilarious! The book covers all kinds of hospitality, and beauty tips, as well as ridiculous illustrations and photos - all from the strange mind of Amy Sedaris! I gave this to my mother as a gift, and then we sat around for over an hour browsing it and cracking up!
Customer Rating: Summary: Quirky fun...and some good recipes too! Comment: I couldn't wait to open this one up and find the surprises inside that the cover seems to promise. I was not disappointed!
First - where did that title come from? Well, Amy's philosophy on hospitality is - "Hello, and I like you. This is what you're saying when you invite someone into your home."
I Like You is full of quirky, hilarious information couched in perfectly reasonable tones. The beginning of the book covers the basics - making invitations, accepting invitations, keeping a party log. It also covers the wacky - why not hold an indoor garage sale at your party to get rid of some stuff when you have a captive crowd? Put some marbles in your medicine cabinet so you know what guest is snooping when the marbles fall into the sink. Planning for auspicious occasions such as 'Blind Date', 'Rich Uncle Comes to Visit', and 'Lumberjack Lunch' (plus lots more) are all covered. Everything you need is provided - invitations, decorations, table setting and most important - a themed menu. All fun aside - the recipes are actually really good! (Loved the Cinnamon Sour Cream Coffee Cake!)
The book is chock full of kitschy photos using some funky dishes and props. Sedaris also has a predilection for googly eyes and they are featured throughout. A gift section at the end gives directions to duplicate many of her creations.
